“Codru” Scientific Reserve

The “Codru” reservation occupies a special place among the protected areas in the Republic of Moldova. Its territory is delimited in three functional areas:

strictly protected area - within the limits of this area any kind of activity is prohibited, except for scientific and protection research.

buffer zone - the area with the function of limiting the impact of human activity, and

transition area - represents private or public agricultural massifs. All types of economic activity that do not contradict the specifics of natural ecosystems are allowed in this area.

This area is part of the wine-producing regions. In the “Codru” region there are excellent conditions for the production of high quality white wines, as well as exceptional sparkling wines. The flora of the reserve counts over 910 species, and the fauna gathers over 1400 species, being a model in the preservation of biodiversity.

The “Codru” reservation also has a nature museum, which includes over 500 exhibits of fauna and flora. For rest, the reservation can offer accommodation, as well as a mobile house, located on the lake shore, at the edge of the forest.
