The Royal Forest

The Royal Forest is a protected area in the Republic of Moldova located between the villages of Cobani - in the north and Pruteni - in the south, covering an area of over 5,000 hectares. The uniqueness of the reservation is represented by the variety of flora and fauna. Rare plant species can be found here, such as wild vines, snowdrops, variegated tulips - a total of 31 rare species, of which 12 are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova. The reserve's fauna includes 47 species of mammals, 15 species of reptiles and amphibians and 159 species of birds, of which 21 are included in the category of rare animal species.

The most important in the Royal Forest Reserve are bison - the symbolic animals of Moldova. Currently, at Zimbrărie there are seven mature bison. Three bison are from Poland, the rest being born in the reserve in Glodeni district.

In addition to Zimbrărie, the Reservation includes sites of unique value for historical and cultural heritage, Suta de Movile; The Great Rock; “Cheile Buteștiului” gorge; "Ciobani" coral reef; "Ţara Bâtlanilor" colony, and other important locations.

Also, on the territory of the Reservation, near the village of Moara Domnească, there are several plots with secular oaks, on an area of about 123 ha. The oaks are over 250 years old and reach record heights of over 35m.
